One of the major highlights of the inaugural session was the distribution of the ‘Wind India 2008’ Awards to stalwarts in the wind industry and to some of its major allies for their efforts in shaping a green India. Some of the major awardees during the period 2006-2008 included Enercon (India) Ltd, bagging 4 out of 11 awards.
Best Service Provider among Manufacturers - First Prize

The Award was being instituted in order to grant recognition to those organizations which have provided the best operations & maintenance (O&M) services to their customers, and to encourage these organizations to continue improving the quality of their operative and maintenance services. Mr. Praveen Kakulte – AVP Service (center) received the award.
Best Wind Turbine (<1MW category) - First Prize

This award was being instituted with the intention of bestowing public recognition on those wind turbine manufacturers with the most efficiently performing wind turbine at any location in India. Mr. D G Kamath – VP Marketing (center) and Mr. Praveen Kakulte – AVP Service (right) receiving the award.
Best Independent Power Product-First Prize

The award was being instituted to accord recognition to the large IPP or private utilities with the largest commissioned wind power capacity in the FYs 2006-07 and 2007-08. Award received by Mr. Praveen Kakulte – AVP Service (right) & Mr. Dinesh Jagdale – DGM Marketing (left).
Best Manufacturer - Second Prize

The award was being instituted with the intention of bestowing public recognition on those wind turbine manufacturers who have contributed the highest commissioned capacity (MW) in the FY 2006-07 and 2007-08. Award received by Mr. D G Kamath – VPMarketing (left) and Mr. Dinesh Jagdale – DGM Marketing (right)
Suzlon Energy Ltd and Vestas Wind Technology India Pvt Ltd were the other to receive the awards .
Among other highlights of the event, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd (IREDA) and Bank of India were the Best Wind Power Financiers
Tamilnadu was the Best Wind Power Developer state in terms of total installation and Gujarat emerged the winner in terms of percentage increase.
The Best Public Sector Investor award went to Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Ltd.
Mr Jami Hossain, Head, Windforce Management Services Pvt Ltd awarded in the category Best Media Report/Publication on Wind Power, for his book, ‘Emergence of the Wind Option’.
More than 400 delegates were present at the conference-cum-exhibition which witnessed the presence of high level government officials, policy makers and regulators, as well as distinguished academicians, researchers, and industry chieftains from India and abroad. Eminent faculty, both from the national and global arena were key speakers making highly topical presentations through seven extended sessions.
