Wind Farm Monitoring

Apart from having a good wind turbine, the most critical aspects for the success of investment in the wind energy sector are (i) having a good site and (ii) an accurate assessment of the wind resource at the site. Realizing this, Enercon India Ltd. has set up a dedicated Wind Resource Department (WRD) in the year 2001. The WRD with its highly skilled and experienced staff takes care of the following with the ultimate objective of making "wind" the preferred investment option for all our customers.
Wind Resource Monitoring consists of following activities:
- Siting
- Wind Monitoring
- Wind Resource Mapping
- Optimization and Micrositing

Siting:
Identification of good windy sites is the first and most important aspect in this business.Wind Resource Department has experienced staff dedicated for this activity. The combination of field experience and knowledge of the wind flow pattern, terrain, grid etc.backed by the latest GIS techniques and use of latest satellite images enable the successful identification of the good windy sites.

Wind Monitoring:
The Wind Resource Department also has a dedicated team for wind monitoring activity. Wind monitoring masts are installed with required sensors for recording accurate data related to wind and weather. The mast is equipped with Automatic Data Logging System. With over 35 masts of heights 50m to 85m, we collect important data across the country. The measurements are carried out at different levels for assessing the vertical wind profile. The uses of calibrated sensors from renowned manufacturers ensure the accuracy and quality of the data. In Enercon wind monitoring is carried out as per best international practices.

Wind Resource Mapping:
Enercon India has the latest software tools for wind flow modeling and resource mapping backed with experienced trained staff. Wind Resource Mapping is critical for a given site to decide the optimized placement of turbines resulting in maximum wind farm output. For an accurate wind resource mapping it is important to ensure the accuracy of the data, which is fed into the software. Enercon carries out extensive survey in the field using latest GIS techniques backed by latest satellite images to get accurat
information of the site. The accuracy of terrain, roughness, wind data, will decide the accuracy of the wind resource map prepared by the program.

Optimization in Micrositing:
Even if we have a good site and a good wind turbine it is important to see that the turbines are put at the right places to extract maximum generation out of the wind farm. Enercon India uses the latest optimization tools widely used by the wind experts across the globe, which carries out several thousand iterations to arrive at the most optimal micrositing for the site. We assure the maximum returns for our customers from their wind farm.
